BRIEFLY ....
Wong Kam Poh was very actively involved in Sports especially Football
which was in his blood. During the days when he was very actively
involved in football, to the hearts of many people, he was their hero!
He left behind a good number of photos. Most of them have narration and
names of the various persons written on the reverse of the photos.
He had a coat with the MCFA badge on it. It was made specially for
his representation at the 7th Olympic Games held in 1948 in Shanghai,
China.
He was born in Penang, Malaya. He had two elder brothers. He
studied at the Anglo Chinese School, Penang till Senior Cambridge after
which he served the government in the Police Department. He had
participated in most outdoor games but soccer was his love.
Members of his family gave him a lot of moral support. Even his father
would go among the spectators to watch him played his games. There were
a few write ups on his participation in the games which he played and
one of the write ups was the China Olympics in 1948. He married Choy Kam
Oi when he came home after the China Olympics. He had five sons and one
daughter. After he got married, he continued playing soccer for the
state of Penang and even tried to train the younger followers the play
of the game.
Before he died of cancer in 1962, he had encouraged his five sons to
take up football but not one of them was allowed by his wife who has her
reasons for doing so!
